This week’s featured artist is NinjaHam! You can find his DA here, and his fluffie pony blog here! Please enjoy the artwork and interview after the break (WARNING: adult subject matter discussed in the interview. Viewer discretion is advised)!
How long have you been into art?
Roughly 16 years on and off.
How did you learn how to create art?
I have always drawn on my own since I was a kid, and I have attended a state university for an art degree.
How did you get into pony art?
I watched the show, I drawn it, people liked it, and I drawn more of it. That’s kinna how it started.
What do you enjoy about drawing human ponies? Do you like drawing ponies or humans more? Should other artists consider drawing humans? How could doing so help them?
Well I draw human ever since I started drawing, so it is a natural transition for me. While I enjoy drawing both ponies and human, I am more comfortable with drawing human because of how long I been doing it for. I suspect most artist probably tried draw human at some point, so I would leave it up to the artist to decide if it interests him or not.
How did fluffie ponies come about? What is the inspiration behind your artstyle? Who are your biggest inspirations in art?
Fluffie Ponies started because of Speccy’s Ask Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie. After looking at that blog enough times I feel like drawing something cute too. You might have notice the amount of FlutterPie on my blog, and that’s no coincident.
Why do you draw NSFW art? Do you enjoy doing it as much as your SFW art? What difficulties or struggles have you had because of what you draw?
Well to specify, since NSFW is such a big category, I draw porn. I draw porn art as far back as I can remember for one simple reason, sexual gratification. To me, art isn’t just about craftsmanship and techniques, it needs to feel right. So, like porn, cute is for feeling warm and fuzzy inside, while action for its epic excitement. I wouldn’t compare them directly because they are intended for different feelings.
Oddly enough, I have not came under the heat for the porn I been drawing.
What is your opinion on the idea that drawing NSFW art will make you more popular as an artist?
I will only comment on the NSFW part I know, porn. I would not recommend drawing porn you do not enjoy for the sake of popularity. Since a big part of art is feelings, if you don’t like it, other people probably won’t like it either.
Have ponies changed the way you think as an artist (what inspires you about ponies)?
I don’t know, I never thought much about it.
How have ponies effected your life in general?
Back around 2009 I decided to gave up on art and pursuit an economics degree. Ponies bought me back into art. I draw more now than I did back when I was pursuing my art degree. So now I spend most of my days drawing.
What else do you do besides art (hobbies, jobs, etc.)?
I am a recent college graduate seeking a job, so art is more or less the only thing I been doing for the past half a year.
Do you have any future projects that you are exited about?
I am always a spontaneous person so I never have much long term plans. I will figure something out when the time comes.
What was your favorite project that you worked on?
The most fun might be the “Artist x Pony” series, where I chat with other artists to see how they might interact with their OC ponies.
Are you working on anything currently?
I am trying to finish up my perpetration for Bronycon, as well as 2 commissions at hand.
What advise would you give new artists?
Keep drawing and use reference. I know a lot of new artists don’t like using reference, but observation is invaluable.
