Cuusoo.com is the Japanese partner of the Lego Group. They work with Lego to produce community-supported sets. If an idea submitted to the website gains 10,000 supporters, it stands a chance of being produced as a Lego Product. A person by the name of Addam over on the site has made a pony concept set that includes Derpy, Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, and Big Mac. We reported on the project back on March 5th, but in the recent week support for the project has exploded (due to EqD running a feature article on the idea).
The Twitter image above was taken today. It seems that even the people behind Cuusoo support the idea, while highlighting models that fit the animation theme. (Animation theme of what though?). The link in the Twitter leads back to the development page on Cuusoo.
Our original article says there were roughly 550 votes for support; at this time, almost two months later, the project is at 4,588. It will definitely be interesting to see where this goes, as this entire process is more or less an election for what products Lego Japan will pitch to the company. We talked about this in the previous article, as there have been issues between Lego and Hasbro. I would have to recheck my sources but I do believe it was over the Transformer franchise, the end result was Hasbro producing its own building blocks called Kre-o. Kre-o, oddly enough, is compatible with Lego.
So if this project is successful in reaching 10,000 votes of support, Cuusoo gets to pitch the idea to Hasbro. Maybe the companies will play nice, or maybe we’ll be buying Kre-o Ponies. We’ll see.
