Nominations for the 43rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards were announced and for the first time in three years, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic has a nomination. It is for Best Original Song with “The Magic Inside” from the episode “The Mane Attraction” with Daniel Ingram as the composer and lyricist and Amy Keating Rogers as a co-lyricist and performed in the episode by Tony Award-winner Lena Hall. In 2012, both “Find A Pet” and “Becoming Popular” were nominated in this category, but both lost out to “The Happy Little Land of Hoboken” from The Penguins of Madagascar.
This year, “The Magic Inside” will be up against the following songs: “Little Froggie” from Bubble Guppies (PBS), “True Bromance” from All Hail King Julien (Netflix), and “We’re Gonna Space Die” from Turbo FAST (Netflix). “The Magic Inside” was one of just three nominations for Discovery Family. The other two went to Transformers: Rescue Bots. One is in Outstanding Performer in an Animated Series for Jeff Bennett for his role as Mayor Luskey, and the other is for the show itself for Outstanding Writing in an Animated Program. Transformers: Robots in Disguise earned four nominations, including one for Outstanding Special Class Animated Program.
The Emmy for Best Original Song will likely be awarded at the Creative Arts portion of the Daytime Emmys on Friday, April 29th. The Awards Show proper will be on Sunday, May 1st. Unfortunately, neither will be televised.
