Well since a bunch of stuff cropped up on Sunday, mostly small stuff that doesn’t merit (in my mind) its own post, or the fact I take Sundays off, we’ll create a little article called the Monday Morning Edition to bundle everything up with. Won’t be weekly, just when I need to post a bunch of small stuff at once. Anyways, on with the show.
Tori Spelling to Host ‘My Little Pony’ Royal Wedding
I’m sure I am not the only one going “who?”. Tori Spelling was one of the people on that Beverly Hills 90210 show, and apparently was E!’s co-host in the coverage of Prince William and Kate Middleton (yay…), now she’s a mother and doing things. According to the article from the Huffington Post she is going to reprise her role for the union of Princess Cadence and Shining Armor. She will be holding a ‘bridle’ shower event at the Tea House in Culver City on 4/14, and appear in commericals for the wedding special (someone gets to pay their light bill this month).
Most notably the article says that Princess Cadence is Celestia’s niece (and also confirms Shining Armor to be Twilight’s brother). I haven’t really heard anything about Cadence being Celestia’s niece until now, which means somewhere Celestia now has another sister, unless Luna is hiding her moon family. So, prepare to be confused and hopefully they’ll cover this in some world building during the episode, it could also be the same thing as Prince Blueblood who Faust described as Celestia’s Great x10 nephew from her mothers side.
The Origins of Steroid Pony
I’m sure he’s been giving a name, probably multiple names by now in the community, but we’ll just call him Steroid Pony, the ripped white pegasus screaming YEEAH multiple times in the episode. FiM Storyboard Artist Raven Molisee gave some insight on her deviant art account here. Now for the text version.
“OK! So, as I just explained in another post, we came up with this guy over the course of a few meetings. The more I think about it, the suggestion may have come up from our board supervisor Jim during the hand-off meeting–when we were doing a simple read-thru of the script. By the time we got to the thumbnail meeting, me and Dave had come up with this veiny-necked body-builder type who was just super psyched about everything. Once we had the whole episode thumbed out in a rough form we figured out (with Jayson and Jim) what points would be the best place to put him so that he’s funny, yet not over done. In our board he was more of a normal pony who had a thick neck and tiny wings. Jayson wanted to push it even further and worked with the character designers to develop an even-more-unique body shape and face.
And there you have it. The story of how a really weird side-character is born! Ha ha!*
*I am probably missing some details–especially since I’m not the director and not involved at every stage. This is purely my account of the goings on, from my limited perspective. But it might be interesting to someone!”
Its generally noted that he wasn’t given a name.
Trees & Eyeballs & Dragons
Ms. Molisee is also responsible for the tree gags in Hurricane Fluttershy. The first one was of course Fluttershy and the tree costume (she was unaware that the fandom latched onto that line from Over a Barrel and ran with it), and she also storyboarded the creepy eyeball scene with Fluttershy.
There is also another comment on her Dragon Quest journal entry, namely someone asking her about the background voices to the new Pegasus in Hurricane Fluttershy and Dragon Quest, the only confirmed name is Matt Hill. Mr. Hill has a long list of roles to his name, most notable as the voice of Soarin in MLP, Bankotsu in InuYasha and Ed in Ed, Edd n Eddy.
Beaver County Times – Why Are Teens Obsessed With My Little Pony
Just a short article that went over the wire from TimesOnline.com, namely about a mother (who wrote an article) about the MLP community, and basically not getting it. Nothing overly special here, the conclusion is she finds us “weird”, which at least in my book, is an understatement. She’d probably be a little more creeped out if she learned its not just teenagers enjoying this show. Article found here.
Wander Over Yonder
I figured this show was worth mentioning in here. Wander over Yonder is a new show being produced for the Disney Channel by Disney TV Animation, at the helm of this ship is Craig McCracken, husband of Lauren Faust. Description taken from a Cartoon Brew article.
Wander is an overly-optimistic intergalactic traveler who, along with his loyal but bullish steed, Sylvia, goes from planet to planet helping people to live free and have fun, all against the evil reign of Lord Hater and his army of Watchdogs.
In a recent comment on her Deviant Art, Faust has revealed that she is a story editor and co-producer of the show.
