Special Derplivery - by: wildwolftoshi

The Telegraph is a news publication over in the United Kingdom. They had a little blurb in a blog-type post on their website, its kinda positive.

here’s a paste:

New Little Pony falls at the first

How sad to learn that My Little Pony, the cartoon series based on the much-loved toys, has provoked a nasty row. “Bronies” – members of the adult, mostly male, fan base for the pony models – are distressed that Derpy, an adorably slow-witted character, has been given a new voice to make her seem “less mentally challenged”. Hasbro, makers of the show, didn’t want to seem to be mocking the disabled – but the Bronies think they’re reducing “diversity” with the changed voice.

Who can guide us through this ethical minefield? If only there were a senior Anglican bishop in the London area who was a secret Brony, dressing his toy animals in the academic dress corresponding to his honorary doctorates. But I must shut up now, because I’ve already said too much…

It isn’t just the fact that they went and changed her voice but her look as well. I could handle the voice but taking out her name as well as changing her eyes was what set me off. It really does look like Hasbro whether they intended it or not went and made a character who wasn’t normal in the first place and forced her to be normal.

Gotta love it when news publications actually make themselves look like uninformed, ignorant, insulting, condesending douches on things they clearly don’t get, and act like that is somehow, everyone else in the world’s fault.

Not one bit of this article even remotely has any of it’s facts straight, from the bronies, to even the facts about the Derpy issue, or what even actually happened.

It’s ridiculous that people still keep jumping hoops over how apparently “weird” it is, that people not only still watch cartoons or that they simply like a particular one.

How come you don’t see any negative, condescending articles about the 30 year old women who watch Adventure Time, or the college-age guys that watched Sailor Moon when it was broadcasted on at 7 am before class?

    • The short answer, cause the name “My Little Pony” is known across the globe by multiple generations and known as a girls cartoon, since the 1980s. Adventure Time is new, and doesn’t get that stereotype.

  • CPH: We will resist!

Bronies/Hasbro: IRRELEVANT! YOUR DISABILITIES WILL BE REMOVED TO MAKE YOU LESS OFFENSIVE TO US. YOU WILL ADAPT TO ENTERTAIN US FOR 30 MINUTES EACH WEEK. YOUR LIFE AS YOU KNEW IT WITH DISABILITIES IS OVER. TOLERANCE IS FUTILE.

Um… guys… no support for the episcopal brony?
