MLP: Interesting Stock Trends

Bryan Stockton resigns as Mattel CEO.

Mattel stock price vs. Hasbro stock price at certain times:

January 29th, 2013 (The day Princess Twilight was officially revealed):
MAT:  $37.26
HAS:  $37.22

June 28th, 2013:
MAT:  $45.31
HAS:  $44.83
The last day Mattel’s stock price was greater than Hasbro’s

November 22nd, 2013:
MAT:  $45.71
HAS:  $52.88
The day before Season 4 of MLP: FiM Premiers.

December 31st, 2013:
MAT:  $47.58
HAS:  $55.01

December 31, 2014:
MAT:  $30.95
HAS:  $54.99

January 26th, 2015:
MAT:  $26.64
HAS:  $54.85

Since January 29, 2013, Hasbro’s stock price has gone up 47.4% while Mattel’s has gone down 28.5% percent. To be fair, Hasbro’s stock price has been greater than Mattel’s more often than not since FiM began airing. Given that Mattel had long been the so-called toymaker for girls with Barbie, American Girl, and Monster High; but that advantage has been eroded by MLP, Equestria Girls, and Nerf Rebelle. Losing the Frozen contract doesn’t help. Hasbro has always the advantage with boys with Transformers and now with Marvel.

I’m sure there are other factors leading to this besides Princess Twilight, but I strongly feel MLP is part of the biggest.
